What Happens When You Ignore Your Gut Instinct?

These are excerpts from my relationship with my ex. Situations that when I look at them now, I shake my head and wonder how I could have been brainwashed so utterly and completely!

What Happened: One day my ex called me at work and said he knew a co-worker who wanted to get a new car.  He wondered if I wanted to have that car, it was just a year old. Well, he hesitates, it has three more years on a four year lease and I would have to assume the lease. How much?, I said. He told me the lease amount. I, at the time, was driving a five year old well-maintained car. I declined the offer. (By this time we were not cohabitating, but he was promising a reconciliation….she rolls her eyes) I told him that I was enjoying the freedom of no car payments. I had enough other bills that I was solely responsible for; mortgage, utilities, gas, etc. I told him thanks but no thanks.  Next day, you guessed it, another call….and another, all about this damn car. I said I couldn’t afford it. Next day, suggests that his child isn’t safe in the present vehicle. Gets me to thinking, why does he want me to have this car so bad? If it’s a genuine concern then that’s ok. GUT FEELING – he has a motive……to make a long story short, I assumed the lease because of the guilt trip and because I still believed that he was a decent guy deep down inside!

What Really Happened: Some weird stuff started happening around this time but that’s for another post. Suffice it to say that my radar went up almost as soon as the ink was dry on the car agreement. I had been getting the phone bills (which I was still paying for) to come as detailed billing. When the bill came in, I noticed numerous calls to a store in Mississauga. So I gave the number a call. This opened a whole new can of worms. Not only did the man that I was married to have 1 affair; I had given him a 2nd chance and he was knee-deep in another one. To sum it up; his girlfriend wanted a new vehicle. He made himself the hero to her for finding a buyer for her car; and I got stuck with a car payment once again….what a dufus I was!

  1. My boyfriend use our mortgage money to impress all the strippers at the local strip club, they dumped him once they found out he was not the big shooter he pretended to be. I hang around believing his lies.

I guess I was not the only one to cling to the fairy tale he spun for me.

  2. Ya. should be a “warning” buzzer attached to these guys. They always seem to be able to find a target to zero in on….jerks!
